Silence of the SoulA Poem by NirmalaThe creative tension in the active relationship with God and the process of seeking divinity and rejecting it by the decisions takenSilence
of the Soul
Taking for
granted the presence of God Cocooned in
the security of longing and belonging Do I hear
your voice, feel your touch? Or is it
only the interpretation of my human yearning? There is
peace in your presence and purpose in your call In constant
conversation is my soul with the Creator Argue,
repudiate, fight and refuse I lack
action, merely words, I move away from Your Will
My soul
skimming the surface of life and love Deaf to the
oppression and anguish all around They appeal
to the very same Creator “Stir her
soul for justice”, they cry out “The blood
of your sibling cries out for righteousness” “My siblings
are fine” I hasten to add “Anyone in
need is neighbour and kin!” With my
indifference the Creator fades from focus
Gradually
coldness envelops the core of my being My heart
sharply contracting loses control of its rhythm Peace is
replaced by inexplicable anxiety Prayers
become bitter cries of anguish and confusion Renting
spirit from body, writhing in isolation I face the
truth of sin separating my soul from God Sin of
acceptance of injustice by omission and commission The sin of
apathy, lethargy and the untimely silence of the soul!
Immersed in
prayer I seek your Will It comes
without effort in life’s simple path In the face
and struggles of those around me Not in
charity but in sharing of one’s life Not in good
deeds but in standing for justice I am no
longer alone but in thy presence My soul is
shielded, strengthened, softened Prepared for
the calling, prepared for your service
