Songs From The Sea : As Night FallsA Poem by gingerpress
She begins to protest as night falls,
At first humming lowly as darkens deepens,
covering her in a black cloak
glistening with a thousand diamonds
sent by the moon’s rays.
Her pleas becoming more frantic
And her body is writhing in an attempt to
Escape from Neptune’s hold.
Reaching in vain to touch
the trees she sees standing before her.
The cries of despair deepen and
turn to angry roars,
She grows stronger as she surges
Faster, harder, with such intensity
She strikes violently against
The rocks and sand,
Desperate to grasp even a grain.
As dawn approaches
The swells of her rage subside,
Her voice weakens to a soft murmur,
She collapses, exhausted,
Resting calmly as the warmth
Of a new day bathes her smooth teal skin.
