Dancing Life

Dancing Life

A Poem by Gilad Levanon
"

The wisdom of the dance.

"
As the rising waves of crashing sound
Cascaded over me and all around
I was swept up off the familiar ground
I learnt then to ride the waves
I learnt to dance
I learnt to release the falsities to which I was bound
And embrace the thrilling sound

In motion lies meaning
Everything moves continuously
A vibration of waves always oscillating
Nothing is ever stagnant or unchanging

I can stand on the floor and try to be still
And be battered by the music and the dancers
Until the sound is mere confusion lacking all thrill

But I can also move

I can stand in the shallows and try to stand firm
And be crushed to the ground and almost drowned
Until the sea is a terrible thing that only makes me squirm

But I can also move

We can seek a state of safety and comfort
And build brick houses with brick walls
We can work until our bank accounts are brimming
And... dig ourselves into a rut

But we can also seek a state of growth and life
And build wooden houses that let the sun in when it's rife
We can play with our worlds and let ourselves move
And... we can get into the groove

This is absolutely lovely. In depth and meaning it is excellent and speaks to deeper understandings of life and love. This speaks so much to me right now. Thank you for sharing. I do have a little bit of a critique, but not because I am anywhere as good as you, but because this poem approaches something so perfect that I give my opinion, which I acknowledge is only my opinion. With each successive stanza not counting the "But I can also move" the wording seems to get a little simple or not quite fitting. For instance "only makes me squirm doesn't work, don't know if its a rhyme and meter issue or a metaphor issue. I read it without it and it almost doesn't seem needed.

In the fifth stanza, "We can work until our bank accounts are brimming
And... dig ourselves into a rut" this almost seems thrown in here and seems too much. I think you might want to consider taking that out as well.

I am by no means as good a poet as you but there are my opinions if would like.

Dance is a majestic kind of art that can relieve tension and be a form of celebration as well. It can also be a great source of entertainment.

I love the complexity and inspiring talent you bring out among your pieces. This one especially. Nicely done.
