BurdensA Poem by gigidig
Burdens are weights that we carry around on our back.
They define us. They are everyone we've ever loved. They are our greatest fears. Our darkest secrets. Our deepest thoughts. They weigh us down, day after day, month after month, year after year. They mold, morph, and shape themselves to fit us perfectly. To be heaviest in places we are weakest. To be roughest in places we are tenderest. To be most cruel and cold in places we are kindest and most loving. They are designed to make us quit. To make us lose heart and hope. To give up on our most glorified dreams and wishes. To make us forget about the light we have in our lives. To force us to see the darkness. To overcome and destroy us when we least expect it. We are dimmed and weakened by them to the point where the pain they inflict is the only thing in which we trust. But there is a way to lighten our unbearable loads. There is a way to break us of our loss and make us see our gain. However, this miraculous cure is more excruciating than any burden. This cure is to love, trust, hope, wish, dream, cry, promise, live, and die to the point of pain. This cure is to let someone in. To tell this person everything. To show this person who you are. To let this person be there and never leave you alone. Then, and only then will this person kneel beside you, as you bear the weight of the world on your shoulders like the Titan Atlas once did before you, and take up your burden. You will not be released from the burden. This burden is yours to endure. But it will be made lighter with the effort of two connected hearts holding and fighting it as one. © 2017 gigidigAuthor's Note
