Well Earned Scars

Well Earned Scars

A Poem by gibletish

As a child I gained a strange companion who has rarely left my side
He perches on my shoulder and leans down to whisper secrets in my ear

With each hushed breath he reveals the true mind of everyone around us
Slyly transforming calm social encounters into storms that rage against me

Talons sinking deep beneath my skin as he holds a mirror up to my face
A mirror that shows my worst mistakes, fears, and flaws staring me down

Demonic laughs echo in my head as I try to ignore his lying voice
I stumble as I try to shake the weight of this beast off of me

Finally I breathe in relief as I free myself from this battle
Confusion follows as I realize nobody witnessed the clash of wills

All that remains from the clash are the scars I earned
Scars that remind me that victory is possible

A beautiful poem, I love victory is possible through scars. An optimistic approach.

The world doesn't give us nearly as many scars as we give ourselves.
