An Ongoing Lesson

An Ongoing Lesson

A Poem by gibletish

From an early age she had several teachers
Who were all eager to teach her how to behave properly

Each mistake was an opportunity for another lesson
Class could start at anytime and there was no calling out sick

Instruction was delivered with speed and force
Such passion from instructors who claimed to not enjoy their work

The meaning behind the lessons always eluded her
But the lessons themselves sunk in deep

Gradually the teachers faded from her life
Ever the good student, she kept up the work on her own

She still didn't understand the meaning behind the lessons
Hoping that one day they would finally work

Never once considering that the lesson might be faulty
And under better care, the student might shine
