Alcohol

Alcohol

A Poem by Ghost

Alcohol

She's like a dry spell in the summer burning up the midnight air,

And she'll leave you longing - always wanting more,

Wanting to feel her scorching kisses or no memory at all,

In my heart, in my mind, I still feel the stinging pain.

She's like a bad night of drinking, the headache, the nausea all consuming,

Like the warm feeling of liquor - she burns with each swallow,

Her smooth touches and wicked ways fuels the liquid fire,

I scream in agony as she dances with the demons locked inside.

She's like an empty bottle found at the bottom of my tequila temptation,

And it's hard to resist her primal passion, radiating sweet southern comfort,

I am left craving more, craving the juices from my poison of choice,

Her cherry licorice lips become my wine - sweet savior wine.

She'll mumble my speech and leave me in a gin filled drunken stupor,

Leave me crying like a child within the quiet euphoria of white lightning,

One day I will regret the day she smiled and ordered me black velvet,

Maybe she's a woman, but another drink of her and I am sinfully craving alcohol....

This is a great metaphor. It reminds me of a personal experience. My grandfather was an alcoholic and he would neglect and mistreat my grandmother. It seemed like his real wife was the bottle of booze. Your poem portrays its addictive seduction excellently.

Yeah....I really like the comparison and use of the different liquors to describe states and states of mind. Both can leave you in a stupor and with a roaring headache the next day...lol. Well written my friend.

Ghost, your metaphor burns through mortal veins and drives good men insane..addiction, torment, need- all so well and vividly described in these tormented lines. The language is graphic as is the suffering. The flow is driven. The imagery and personification vivid and passionate. Alliteration emphasizes the pain. I have had friends and family who suffered from alcoholism and I have suffered from their alcoholism. Your words here help me to understand so much more. Thank you.

Great simile here. Indeed, romantic attraction is quite intoxicating and certainly addicting. Lydi**

Thank you and yes attraction can be intoxicating...
Beautiful .... we generally like to stay...then some situations makes us want to run away...
But after all if we are not good at seduction who will be :p
Loved the poem...
