Waiting for death

Waiting for death

A Poem by Ghiasquared

Death rows cold concrete underfoot
Steel bars restrain the condemned
Cold stares pierce the glance
Whimpers under the din of growl
Rows of lost souls abandoned
Visiting day brings empty promises
Some lie in defeated wait
Cells smelling of regret and disgrace
The jailer stops at metal cage
The chosen cowers in naked fear
Metal door scrapes open
Jailer stepping aside
An angel of mercy crouches to knee
Slowly fear melts away
With the heated touch of love
As this angel scruffs the neck
And the condemned licks his new friend
