Backstory

An introduction to the setting, characters, and plot of the story.

     Darrin Zachary Blight wasn't always... 'bad'. He used to be a straight A student, a teacher's pet, but that was all for his parents. Not for himself. Darrin's parents had adopted him from St. Louis long ago, to start a family in Louisiana. Unfortunately, something along the way went wrong, and the two fought over everything. Especially Darrin. He didn't let it stop him, for a while. He understood. Raising a child was difficult. It was probably just a natural part of the process. It apparently wasn't, unless it lasted the entirety of what should have been his childhood. Then he got into the paranormal.

     He started a web show, "Anomalous Operation". He hunted ghosts all around the world, from his hometown of Louisiana to entire other countries. Along the way, it was discovered that his body emitted a huge amount of EMF, energy that ghosts use to manifest. This made for an incredible amount of activity wherever he went. His show got more and more popular, and finally, he received an award.

     Up on the stage, he stared through the bright lights shining on him alone, and didn't see his parents. For all the clapping and cheering... He'd never felt more unloved.

     Something in him snapped. He cut off all communications with his parents, and never spoke to them again. He drifted away from his friends and became completely and utterly alone. He dyed his hair and pierced his ears and began a reality check that would last a good long while.

     He really was a child. He just never had a childhood.
