![]() The Boys are backA Poem by Gerry Legister![]() Our men of war went out in the face of death and came back triumphantly![]() They
come back almost losing shirt and shoe, They went out like men and came back as veterans A
survivor or saviour, future glare where freedom share Giving
courage in brutal weather deny soul and body In
dominion where sadness looms steps had the gloom And
drift into another day when red eyes went astray, Sometimes
they talk and don’t turn up to do anything, There
is a body of opinion, mythical and delusional, Income years turn the journey from boys into men, No more toys to change and make them fit for work Only older veterans dream of honour and illusions. © 2015 Gerry Legister |
