It's my faultA Poem by Gerry LegisterTaking full responsibility for my actionIt’s my
entire fault we lived on the edge, With faces
flung into bewildering frown, Dim health
marred our fading visage, The
infirmities diminished our splendid crown.
By choice the
thirst of poverty command, In spirit I
met grim demand, armed and strong, And many more
destruction I understand, All my fault
torn up and trampling down.
Can I turn
back the hands of time? And start to
live a better life all over again, When fortune
has already decline And continue
to fall like lashing rain.
Making no
time to dream and gleam, From the noon
day sun climbing in the sky, I acknowledge
opportunity has come and gone, And sit above
the dark shadows on high.
One day the
orbiting world gasps and turns, The golden
flame may once more burn sublime, And fill my
dream with brighter fortunes, I could never
have hoped to find.
I am the
wreck of a dissolving dream, Bequeath more
symbol than good, The urn of my
entire fault lifts in pinion, Downward gaze
the command where I stood. © 2015 Gerry Legister |
