Amy Porter

I'm just one of the guys, who loves to play

At a local bar; 'typical Friday

I see you from a corner of my eye

You were laughing; hanging out with this guy

Suddenly, it seemed like faith intervened

You start to fight, and I'm caught in between

I don't know you; never even met you

But part of me wanted to protect you

Tried to take you outside to catch some air

In between sobs, you said "he is not fair"

I had no idea what caused the flare

But I knew that night, he just didn't care.

The night was cold and it was quiet outside.

You're a beauty the night can't even hide

Weird; It pains to see this crying beauty.

A part of me wished that you were with me

So we hugged and I drove you to your house

In the car; sober; quiet as a mouse

And so to break the deafening silence

You hit play, and there's the song from sixpence.

The song went "Hey now, don't dream it's over"

You sang along, I knew you were sober.

In between songs; to yourself, you'd whisper...

"Can't believe I'm with a guy from Denver"

I kept driving till I reached the corner

Outside your house; you gave me your number.

I said "Thanks. Be safe, beautiful stranger"

You said. "Thanks to you. I'm Amy Porter."
