My Mother's Red JacketA Poem by Jorj JiePanic buying on a Flash Flood. My Mother's Red Jacket
The rain stopped for 10 minutes or more. I rushed to buy some stuff from the store. Panic-buying or shopping galore. Bought stuff I needed and left the store.
I walked; held the grocery bag tight. ‘Tried to keep my umbrella upright. I was walking; hopping all my might. Streets flooded; no exit was in sight.
A cab driver nearby spotted me. He reached my hand and groceries. I had to set my other hand free I jumped to his side; it was funny.
Thanked him, and soon as I was walking. ‘Crossed the street without even looking. Then there’s this man sitting and shaking ‘Probably cold in his wet clothing.
“Got into the house and found my key. I picked some stuff at the bakery. Mom's jacket, bread a bill of fifty. "Hi, Sir! These are all for you, from me"
I just noticed he was drooling. ‘I stepped back, fearing he’ll do something. He took the jacket, without looking. “Thank You,” he said and started walking.
