"

The summer after I turned seventeen was the most exciting time of my young life that I can recall. Sadly, I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Though it was years ago I can remember it like it was yesterday. The summer I met the one person who altered every aspect of myself. The only time I didn’t need to know everything to be happy. The easiest time of one’s life.

It had been a little over a week since summer had started, the days had begun to blur together as they had last summer. I was in my dark room enjoying a secret addiction of mine. I was an in-the-closest romance lover! Something I could never let anyone from school find out about. It’s not that I wanted what the characters in the book had, it was more along the lines of I didn’t understand the concept of loving and cherishing one person so deeply. Also, to see how bold a woman or man could be, or how stupid, when it came to love. Why would you want to give your life for something that was so uncertain? I was on my fifth one when a beep came from my computer. I marked my place in the book and got up to see what was on my screen. The notification said I had an email from one of my buddies. It was from Hotaka, my oldest friend.                                                                                                               “Hey buddy what are you up to so far? Have you even left your house yet? You’ll never guess what I did yesterday! I went indoor skydiving with Yoichi! It was a blast, and there was some hot       chic’s! If you aren’t busy let’s meet up.”

How did the a*****e know I haven’t left the house yet? Is he a psychic now? Ugh what can I even tell him. I looked down at the pile of already read books and wondered if I could tell him about what I have read so far? Nah, that would make me sound even more pathetic. Speaking of books, I need some new ones. I guess it wouldn’t hurt me to walk to the book store. I got up and pulled on a new shirt and checked my hair in the mirror. My pale skin was a little paler and my shaggy hair looked like it had grown a bit. Other than that, there was no offendable differences or problems, I should be good to go. As I walked out the door I immediately started sweating. The heat was going to kill me before I got there!

Walking to the bookstore is the only real exercise I normally get other than walking to school. Man, I wish I had a license. I was about half way there when I looked over and saw a figure on the other side of the road. I turned my head in that direction when I saw it. It was a girl! She had on a baggy pink t-shirt that was a little shredded, a short black skirt with a strange belt, black boots and socks, and her hair was up in a ponytail. My instant reaction to her was that she must have been crazy to wear black in this heat, but the more I looked at her, the prettier she became. Her hair was slightly wavy, her arms were covered in different types of bracelets, her skin was elegantly pale, all that was left was for me to see her face. Then before I knew it I was a few feet away from the bookstore. I had lost the time watching her from across the street, and she was going into the same bookstore that I was going to!

I suddenly froze in my tracks, what should I do? Who knew if is she noticed I was staring at her or if she even felt my presence. Should I go in and try to talk to her? Should I wait and try to bump into her as she leaves, or should I just wait till she leaves and then return to the pressing matter of buying my books? If this was a romance novel I would go in and find some way to sweep her off her feet. That would be so cool! Sadly, knowing my luck, I would just trip over my own feet. Ok it’s not a lost yet she hasn’t left, maybe I should just go in and see what happens? Going with the last option I ran across the street to the stores door.  Tragicality as I tried to push open the door it seemed stuck. Then I saw her walk up to the counter with an arm full of books! I felt my heart melt at that point! I decided jammed door or not I would see her what she looked like. I threw my body at the door and it gave easily, sending my flying through the air and landing on the ground!

When I started to open my eyes I suddenly realized that the ground was kind of soft, and something was on my face! Don’t tell me I face planted on her feet! How lame would that be? I decided to accept my fate. I reached a hand up to help push myself up when I felt a something squishy. I instantly opened my eyes and saw that not only was I squeezing her b***s but I had my face buried in them! From her chest I looked up to her face, she was the most lovely girl I had ever seen. She instantly opened her eyes and looked down at the guy who was on top of her squeezing her b***s. She was not only the most beautiful girl, no she was the angriest girl I had ever seen.

“You f*****g pervert!” Before I knew it, I was flying into the cash registered with a beautiful and vengeful angle looking down at me.

“I am going to give five seconds to explain why you threw me down and then had the nerve to feel me up you f*****g pervert!”

I never got my five seconds to speak to her. As soon as the words left her mouth she brought her fist up and punched me in the face. Before the shock and pain were gone I saw her gather her books and run! I thought the only thing that could have made her seem more adorable at that moment is if she were running into my arms! Then the real pain hit me, my jaw was throbbing and swelling from her punch. D****t that all should have gone better! How did I mess up my life so bad in two minutes? Feeling pain, shame, and rejection I looked at the ground to avoid the stares of the other customers who had just witnessed everything. While I was getting up I noticed something next to me, it was a bracelet. It must have been one of hers, maybe it came off when I tackled her or worse when she punched me. I picked it up and saw the words Element Rising burned into the leather. Sad my one token of when I met the coolest girl ever. The coolest girl ever who just punched me a few moments ago.

Gathering what dignity I had, I headed for home. All I could think of was how soft her chest was, even through her shirt. I couldn’t stop my teenage mind from wandering to the dark corners that shouldn’t be exposed in the daylight. By the time my imagination ran out I was home, my aunt’s house. Ever since Dad died, my mom can’t even stand to be in the same house as me, so I live with my aunt. As soon as I opened the door I instantly remembered that my jaw was still swollen! Luckily she wasn’t downstairs so I was able to sneak up to my room. As soon as I closed the door I fell onto my bed and continued to think about what happened. If it was a romance novel I would have fallen into her and had her land on me, that way I could have flirted with her! Thinking how she reacted I think she still would have punched me either way, but at least I made a lasting impression. Her face was so perfect. From what I could remember she had light pale brown eyes, soft full pink lips, and flushed cheeks that put any red rose to shame, and I fell on her! Oh well, it’s not like I’ll ever see her again so who really cares. Yes, she was very pretty, but from the looks of her she would have been too much for me to handle. She also probably would have been too much trouble. Who knows.

The next time I opened my eyes the sun was just coming up. I had slept through dinner and the rest of the night. Man, I was freaking starving! As I got up to walk to the door I tripped over some cloths. Feeling embarrassed again I got up and brushed myself off. As I did this I saw the bracelet fall from my pocket. As I picked it up I suddenly remembered my face. I rant to the bathroom and turned on the light. The swelling was gone but I had a dark blue-ish bruise on my chin. She has a good punch, I wondered for a minute if it was good or bad that I found that cute? Either way I figured I should go back to the store and see if I can give this back to her.

I went back to my room and found my best t-shirt and nicest pair of jeans before trying to fix the nightmare that was my bed head. When all hope of nice hair was gone, I shoved the bracelet into my back pocket and walked out the front door. By the time I got to the store it was just opening. As I walked in I got an odd look from the owner who seemed to be amused that I came back. Feeling my face get hot, I went to the back and found a history book I could read. I found a seat close to the entrance and started to read my book. By the time I finished the book I saw that it was almost noon. I looked around and she was nowhere in sight. Giving up I went to put the book back so I could leave. As I shoved the book back into its original slot I heard the door open and a familiar voice fill the air.

“Excuse me sir? Have you seen a leather bracelet around the store today or yesterday?”

As she stood there asking about her bracelet I felt a weird mixture of both excitement and fear. I was happy to see her, especially when she wasn’t angry. On the other hand, I was also scared to death that she would kick my a*s again as soon as she saw me. I almost chickened out when I saw how sad her face was. When the owner shook his head no her face fell and her eyes became so heartbroken that I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t let her leave without the bracelet no matter how hard she can hit.

“Is this your bracelet?”

Her face lit up the instant I spoke! It made my chest tighten and my breath quicken. It was the first time she smiled at me. She was wearing a vintage looking gray dress that cut off at her thighs, a ponytail, and knee high black boots. She looked wonderful! She ran over to me excited to see her lost bracelet. Just as she neared me she stopped dead in her track and looked at me again, her smile instantly faded. Her eyes narrowed and she snatched the bracelet out of my hand and stood there. I knew she recognized me from yesterday as the pervert who felt her up. It was the first time in my life that I wished someone would kill me where I stood so this encounter would end. Then as quickly as she came she turned and left the store without another word. Shocked I couldn’t believe that I didn’t get another word out. Sadness filled my heart and I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t let it end like this, I chased after her.

“Wait! Hold on a sec!” She wasn’t that far from the store but I was scared to let her get away so I reached for her arm, “hey I said wait!”

She gasped as I pulled her arm, making her face me. We were so close I could smell the fading traces of perfume on her clothing. I didn’t however need to be that close to see the pissed off expression she was giving me! She grabbed my wrist and squeezed so hard I let go of her and shoved me against the fence that was next to us. Breathing hard neither one of us spoke for a moment.

“What the hell do you think you are doing? First you attack me, then you steal my bracelet, and now you are stalking me? What the hell do you want already?”

“Honestly? … Your name for starters. I’m Kioshi” With a puzzled look she pushed me harder against the fence.

“Fine if that’s all you want! Its Kimi, now will you leave me alone?”

As she started to walk all I could hear was her name echoing in my ears. Kimi, how wonderful. She was so beautiful that her name barely compared. I didn’t want to leave her alone I wanted to ask her out, to get her phone number. Even with all that want I couldn’t bring myself to say it. So, I said something else.

“I didn’t steal that stupid bracelet by the way! You dropped in the store and I found it! I didn’t need to come here to give it back to you, I could have kept it. Maybe you should be more careful with your s**t!”

“Nice to know.”

That was all she said before she faded away. All I could do was stand there and watch her leave. She had finally said something real without glaring, cussing, or abusing me. That was a step in the right direction. After she disappeared I ran home smiling the whole way. My life had suddenly changed, if it was for the better who knew. I ran to my room and jumped onto my computer and messed Hotaka back.                                                                                                                                           “Ya sounds fun. Let’s meet up when it works best for you. Also, your wrong I haven’t been in my room all break long! Something cool happened. I think I got a girlfriend!”

What could go wrong right?
