First Mistake

First Mistake

A Poem by Georgeann

“Your first mistake was tampering with a lost boy.

He was broken.

You tried your best to piece his story back together, hoping to play the biggest part.

You kissed his wounds from the moment the sun made its way into the sky, and far past when the moon took its stage.

You brushed your lips along the shades of purples and blues scattered across his body.

Bruises he wished to never speak of.

You laid your head upon his chest, synchronizing your heartbeat with his,

and watched as he lowered his head and placed a kiss atop yours.

You began to believe you were all he could need.

But his shaking hands said otherwise.

You knew he was hurting far worse than what your compassionate nature could repair.

Your actions could only prove worthy for a short amount of time.

So he left, without gratitude.

And you watched, as he searched for his straight-line answer at the bottom of a bottle.”

Georgeann, thank you so much for your groundbreaking piece. You moved me to tears. I relate to every keystroke you arranged in this poem, and it proves to be somewhat of a therapy when I read it. You are a wonderfully soulful writer with an apparent knack for subtle flares of necessary description. I cannot wait to read more of your pieces.
One hopelessly romantic girl to another, this is what my defeated heart needed tonight.
Bravo.
