The Mating Place

The Mating Place

A Poem by Sean Clemons
"

poem of love by those in our images

"

Ethereal lights spin and circle each other,

            flitting from tree to tree in love’s effervescing dance of fairies.

Moonlit wisps of dust and sparkle cleave paths through the electric atmosphere,

            and kiss lightly the cheeks of their love partners.

     Darting winged lovers mingle with forest vines and fireflies,

            and spin closer to the mating place,

  where magic between two combines to create a new life fire.

 The impatient lovers light upon the leave of the sturdy pin oak tree,

            and embrace with arms and delicate wings wrapping each other,

as sparkling dust settles upon them from their flight path above,

            and glows as a cloud around them in their passions.

   Such love as is never seen on Earth ensues,

            as fairy hearts surrender to the rapture of love so light yet so deep;

where hearts the size of pin heads fill the void of all earth-dom;

            with passions unruly and wild.

    There is no hesitation between two lovers such as these.

They have ridden the wild winds together over the Australian outback;

            and have laid bare upon the icy snows of Siberia in winter’s frigid grasp.

The two have flown the rare heights near the full moon’s steady glow,

            and breached the cave depths of the Mexican karst.

The love they have shared already is endless and without care,

            and now this day they renew again their passions on a leave of the pin oak.

And as gasping rises,

          and spinning increases,

                     and sparks flicker out of the tornadic spiral,..

           a new life force is born…

 tiny but bright with the light of hope and kindness.

   Fairies gather from ends upon ends to meet the new one,

             born of endless love and passion,

unceasing purveyor of hope for all Earth’s creatures;

            and spin and whiz above the light in a dazzling spiral of excitement;

                          wings and legs and arms spinning faster and faster as they burn energy in tandem;

                             always with eyes to the newest member of the kingdom.

Yet, not always do even fairies enjoy life's special moments without duress,

            and ever so slowly,......

                .......the bright new light fades and reduces it’s movement.

   Faster and faster do the legions of fairy messengers spin and build,

            trying to bolster and buttress the meager life hanging on by a slim dim light!

So fast do they move,

                       pouring their hearts and all that they are into protecting this one new innocent life;

                     never ceasing in their dedication to the weak among them.

              Yet the new life that was,

                the life spun from the lights of love’s messengers,

                        fades to nothingness;

                                    to coldness.

           to death.

              Life ceases...

             The whirling cloud of supporters slows,

 weeping as one;

                        sparkling tears dripping lightly upon the leaves below them;

            hearts so small yet so full of sadness and angst.

                       as the forest weeps.

               Two partners that are one,

                         that have shared the depths and heights of the world together;

            share now the great sorrow together too with their community of winged Samaritans.

They fly on together now,

             lights not quite as bright,

                        lives not quite as full of joy,

                                    and renew their sacred vows of never ending love,

       at the ends of Earth and beyond.
