The Esoteric Taking of Lucid Lisa Ushiromiya

The Esoteric Taking of Lucid Lisa Ushiromiya

A Poem by alice mercury
"

Second in a series of 3(.5).

"

Your eyes held diamonds,

In them I was lost to the glamour,

But what they don’t tell you about diamonds

(Or rather, what everyone forgets)

Is that they’re just cold, hard, sparkling rocks.

But it is neither your fault,

Or mine,

That the earth pressed its weight down into you,

(Pressed its molten hands into your skull--made you like this)

So I really, really can’t vilify you.

Not for this.

“It’s natural; it’s nature, baby.”

That’s what you tell me, the frog,

(The ugly toad--your brilliant tadpole)

Stupidly, willingly on your back,

My scorpion in shining armor.

“Honey, believe me,

It’s just the beginning.”

And I can’t break the gilded cuffs around my joints,

Or yours,

But.

(“But?”)

I can still rest on your back.

I can still take your sting in turn.
