Lone Wolf

Lone Wolf

A Poem by Azrael

Alone in the wilderness
A single wolf howls at the moon
Pack-less , singular in the hunt
Desperate pangs of connection
Lonely whines his soul
Haggard old and gray
Begrudged he moves along
Keen eyes survey his landscape
Sharp ears listen in the bitter wind
Nothing
The moon ,the stars and he
The crunch of his paws in the frozen tundra
Soft sounds to kill his silent surroundings
Thinking of his youth brings a feral grin
The joyful runs in hunting prey with his kin
Lifetimes ago
Stopping he smells the freezing wind
Hoping for scents of past glories
He is alone ,cold biting his nostrils
Resignation inches him along
The search for his place of peace
In that spot which he will finally lie
He will gaze at his friend the moon
Think of his fondness for the stars
He will close his eyes
And rest that blissful rest
Alone in the cold he will die
Challenges met
Life long lived
He will greet his end
