Drive-By Media

Drive-By Media

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

The acolyte responsible
for conveying linear and
quadratic entities to the
youth of tomorrow went
missing in the middle of
the oil patch, and the
news media hopped on
it like a kitten does with
a piece of string soaked
in synthetic catnip.

They say to the audience,
it couldn't happen here.

They say to the audience,
they never lock their doors.

A veteran from the same field
and the same environment,
screams bullshit out loud.

They have no concept of
reality, they only portray
what they want you to see.

Perpetually growing this
rural stereotype that major
crimes can never happen here.

They fail to realize that their
own news magazines portray
stories that run against this
grain all time, every time.

Oh well, what the hell,
people have memories
shorter than the bridge
to nowhere nowadays.

Shorter memories and
shorter attention spans
that is.

And all that will come this,
a family's pain endure forever
because of momentary exploitation.

The drive-by media can f**k off.

Author's Note

Kenneth The Poet
For once, I actually agree with Rush Limbaugh. I credit him with introducing to the phrase "drive-by media".

The searing anger and cynicism mask a longing and idealism I really admire and appreciate. Top quality protest writing, Ken.

I think this part said it all:

"Oh well, what the hell,
people have memories
shorter than the bridge
to nowhere nowadays"

I can feel a sense of resignation to the political drudgery when you write,
"Oh well, what the hell,
people have memories
shorter than the bridge
to nowhere nowadays."

disgusting, but true.

Only believe the news that you can make yourself. Or news that you can see with your own two eyes my friend.

um will you still read my stuff if I say I hate all media talking heads... especially RL?

It's too bad more individuals, very much like you, can't see what you are saying. Things are changing at light speeds and everyone is gonna get a heck of a wind burn.

Where I live, they hadn't had a murder in forty years, 40. This past year they've had 4.
I left where I used to live because it's crime and murder rate had made it to worst in the nation. Things change.

Don't be the "audience." turn off everything that isn't directly in front of you.

but then, my soap box is showing. Put it all out there, it's possible we could all reach at least one other person.
