Trajectory

Trajectory

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

Zero at twenty-five,

Zero at one-hundred,

zeroed in on a target

of a Cartesian design,

the x-axis called windage,

the y-axis called elevation,

the roots to a quadratic

equation with a coefficient

far less than zero but still

greater than negative one

since its shallow and affected

a great propulsion force and

the force of gravity,

the bullet that is.

Let the ground be the

axis of symmetry when

compared to the bullet’s

trajectory, a reflection

of a curve of that goes

closer to zero as the

eternal x-axis called time

pushes onward, forward into

the ether called the unknown,

all because of air resistance,

all because of gravitational interference

all because of propulsion made by a hammer

striking the center of rimfire cartridge and

creating a small explosion.

And after the caliber that has three

factors where two smaller factors add

up to the third factor impacts the target,

the sibling with sniper training records

his observations of elevation and windage

and target locations of his cold-bore and

warm-bore shots in a journal like a naturalist

would to verify the truth of natural selection.

And the one without encounters a learning

curve with this subject, but can accurately

equate a circular or parabolic path through

the bullet hole locations because life and

death and everything else in between

functions on some kind of curvature.

Because life, death, and everything else

in between has some of kind of error,

some kind of imperfection within it,

but that is beauty also because we wed

our spouses for better or worse, be one

libidinously linear or carnally curvaceous.

Life is a curve,

so enjoy the ride

because it is short

and quick like a

bullet’s trajectory.

. ah ... i am grateful to my 14 year old nephew ... for keeping me on my toes ... and ensuring that i am reacquainted with some precious scientific and mathematical concepts i learnt in school (in the neolithic age) ... this was a great read ... this is where science and mathematics meet life and philosophy ... superbly written ...
