Guitar God

Guitar God

A Chapter by Kenneth The Poet

He brought a gun and
she bought a stairway, and yet
they have the same name.

Derek Domino
pining for Layla, thirsting
for her cold water.

Tom Sawyer receives
the electric treatment from
three Canadians.

Death heavy metal
proudly pounds out the riffs so
the red fluid rains.

The Messiah is
a woman related to
roses made of stone.

A folk festival
is where the songwriter went
electric, first time.

A synthesizer
did not tarnish his work on
Nineteen Eighty Four.

Crossfire was not a
political talk show for
this badass Texan.

Three other badass
Texans, two with beards, and some
dark, cheap sunglasses.

A cartoon caveman
holds the audience in a
massive stranglehold.

A sweet home harbors
the deep-fried stainless city,
Pittsburgh of the South.

Pulling us under
with stellar vocals, stunning
lyrics, all theater.

The wayward children
of today becomes sand grains,
lost to wind motion.

Milk and honey town,
a sugar child calls this place
home, not a jungle.

The slumber monster
arrives upon the setting
sun, about to strike.

The habaneros
of funk cover'd in tissue,
ragged and jagged.

Release the rock beast
within, the guitar god wants
out and wants to jam.

There is so much to engage with here, Kenneth. Allusions to all sorts of texts and references that lead off on so many different journeys, all satisfying. Tremendous style and a very enjoyable read.

You have a amazing mind. I had to re-read to catch all the places you took me with your words. I enjoyed the movement and the desire of this poem. Thank you for a excellent poem.

I see my knowledge of rock music is sorely lacking...but I did catch the few literary references! I felt something though...maybe it's the undeniability and the inevitability of rock to stir you up and drown you out and generally unsettle you, eh?

A story told in music and lyrics .To be felt and heard internally Music is another language like the emotions shone on a face just as emotion bespeaks fear happiness anger. music does in the melody what words do to the page .But music can do in 2 minutes what prose takes a novel to accomplish

I see they caught you with a "Greatest hits of the..." 50's, 60's, 70's etc etc roncor or k'tell type commercial program. Chuckling here. Its like walkin' a mind-field with a broken 8 track player for company.

Take care Ken... don't get too-cute.
