Prometheus

Prometheus

A Chapter by Kenneth The Poet

Prometheus the

Fire-Bringer, the Cubs fan of

Greek mythology.

The sentence: being

held captive in the mountains

of western Georgia.

Chain’d to a boulder

Forever, the eagle ate

his liver daily.

All because he was

a champion for human

rights and survival.

The masses, the gods

of now, don’t appreciate

his lighthouse builders.

He brought the fire, he

brought the light to us in our

darkest, starkest days.

And handfuls of folks

are dedicated to the

firelight of learning.

To igniting it

from a simple spark to a

raging inferno.

It is their job

to turn the waterways of

ignorance into

pathways of mental

acceleration that push

our species forward

into and unto

mesospheric reaches and

superior feats.

But, modern culture

dictates the mantra about

mind complacency.

Being lazy is

being good, being dumb is

being good as well.

The passage of time,

the natural selection

of the stupid genes,

and the depleting

nature of the universe

will cancel us out.

We must retard this

tendency by giving our

lighthouse builders the

respect they deserve

so the firelight burns brightly

for the duration.
