Amicable

Amicable

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet
"

Romance clashing with Mathematics, once again.

"
In this age,
they say
true love
doesn't exist.

And with them,
I must agree.

But,
oddities,
outliers,
exceptions,
always crop up,
always exist.

And with love,
these people
stand the
test of time.

They are
amicable,
like a pair
of unrelated
numbers.

On the
surface
at least.

The man is 220,
while the woman
is 284.

They are amicable
because the factors
of 220 add up to 284,
and the factors of 284
add up to 220.

Man is 220 as
the lesser gender,
and Woman is 284
as the fairer sex.

But despite
the disparities,
the calamities,
the tragedies,
they are connected
together forever
by their compatibility,
their forgiving ability,
their emotional agility.

Together,
they have
a combined
compatibility
score of 504.

That looks
worse than
a lousy
credit score
but it means
something deeper,
something more.

True love
may not
be alive,
but
amicability
is something
we can
strive for.

It might
be all we
have left.

Author's Note

Kenneth The Poet
Factors of 284: 1 + 2 + 4 + 71 + 142 = 220

Factors of 220: 1 + 2 + 4 + 5 + 10 + 11 + 22 + 44 + 55 + 110 = 284

Love is a different desire today. Few people try to keep the fire burning and the passion alive. Love is a possibility. Some love is automatic. Love for parent and our kids. A very good poem. Open the doors to many good questions. Thank you for a excellent poem.

Oh my gosh this is so beautiful. The tone is fine that it is almost delicate. The words are perfectly chosen. How odd that u would mix love with mathematics and yet it has performed such an amazing job. This is creativity and a perfect ending that causes lingering thoughts. I personal try to believe tht true love does exist (even though everything seems to suggest it does), but I think i would be fine with this as well. Great job. i really like this. Adding to my favs :)

This is awesome. I love the way you combined the two seemingly contrasting subjects. Of course, the flow is fantastic and reads as smooth as milk. Amazing poem! I especially loved the bit about credit score. Clever! Also, intense ending stanza, there. Just perfect. Great job.

Nicely done and very well said.

leave it to you to make a probability equation to love...LOL!! i haven't hit that true love thing yet...and i am an agnostic about it...but i have seen it in others...you just never know if it's just a show or not

Ken,

I learned as a kid not to see in terms of shapes and colors... just in terms of people. Seems love works that way too.

I like your thoughts here.

Take care,
Chris

What a wonderful poem! Analytical reasoning is really needed here. You also include math which I saw for the first time in a poem. That detailed resemblance of true love and reasoning is quite unique. I must say this is the best poem that had me think thoroughly.

. fascinating ... extremely fascinating ... one of my teachers used to say "exceptions prove the rule" ... about true love: ... it's there but more often than not ... i find that people find it tough to be true to it ... consequently, "amicability" is all one is left with ... i could be wrong ... nonetheless, this is a great post ... triggers contemplation ...
