Or So The Story Goes

Or So The Story Goes

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

Lost in a haze of misunderstanding and excuse
Am I really in a place to shake a finger and accuse
The Most High of being a prolific killer since He
Controls the bounds of life with everybody and Me?

Every hair numbered, the ultimate bean counter
If that is really true, then the bravado flounders
A sign of love, or is the Creator just a stalker
Seems to me that he's not much of a talker

I can't talk to the guy one-on-one, face-to-face
I guess it's because I am fallen from His grace
An atheist blasphemes outwardly, sounding off
There are many reasons why they remain aloft

Too many holes that demand resolution of some kind
And yet the apologists come back harder, more refined
The average pavement pounder says a simple prayer
To ensure that every problem is handled with care

These aren't nutjobs, fanatics that push some hard line
They follow Christ's example as it was literally defined
And the atheist like me is left confused and shocked
Wrapped in metaphysical chains that we find locked

Maybe accepting the Savior is worth the trouble after all
He set up the rules, and We The People caused the fall
But is the sacrifice the absolute exercise in vanity?
Next comes the crack that equates religion to insanity

So, what is the verdict that the onlookers could vote for?
How many of them just work the trenches and ignore
The public battles that are like the Greek spectacles of old?
It leaves the rabble embittered, shattered, simply cold

Maybe the issue needs more consideration or not?
Maybe I should plunge myself in while it is boiling hot?
Whatever the outcome, the omniscient one already knows
He is the Architect and Watchmaker, or so the story goes

I'll bet you put a good bit of work into this. Bringing up all the points you make and then shaping them into rhymes couldn't have been too easy. On the subject---well, religion is a complicated thing. You've got everybody believing different things and all swearing they're right and the others are wrong. If only there some simple answers to it all.

A great write about the many issues concerning faith. I really like how it came out. Excellent work.
