Thirty-Two Votives

Thirty-Two Votives

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet
"

Another write inspired by a major tragedy.

"
It was a Monday morning like none other
They are reenacting the fifties' duck and cover
Not because anybody saw the mad flash
But they had to make the maddest dash

Under the desks because of projectiles flying
And the outcomes, innocent students are dying
For no reason, what did they do wrong?
Now, we have to write a not needed swan song

As senseless as other times that have gone by
Still there is absolutely no reason they had to die
Just because one man had some really bad luck
Doesn't mean the lives of others had to suck

From my point of view to points everywhere else
Let's put that false sense of security back on the shelf
And take down the ribbons, candles and tissues
And be with the folks who are rightly working through the issues

The fourth estate informs you but blows it out of whack
The ultimate point: thirty-two souls won't be coming back
All these innocent people, unfairly shot and unjustly died
Even though the psychologists and professors tried

Just because of unhinged, rotten motives
Now to be written are thirty-two votives
