ImmortalityA Poem by Kenneth The PoetAnother piece of free verseWriting on, searching for motivation to find immortality beyond my earthly station An unstoppable urge pressing me to achieve the Sagan maxim about living on in the hearts of future generations Will I be remembered like Bukowski? Will I be remembered like e.e. cummings? Will I be remembered like Yeats, like Elliot, like Pound? Even Seuss maybe? Even Silverstein maybe? I guess my immortality will come when the stein asks the knight if I was their favorite math teacher as they’re imbibing shots of Jack in their latter days as they reminisce their glory days But, I can only hope
My poetry might land into the dustbin of inconsequence, but maybe my instructional impact will last onward until the younger generations become one with the earth again Ah well, what the hell, striving for immortality is just the cliché that everybody associates with the writers anyway Some win, some lose, but at least they tried and maybe that’s the lesson of this sermon © 2011 Kenneth The PoetReviews
