Clearly Stated

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

in ancient times,
some kind of anarchy reigned

tribes roamed where the animals did

they hunted, they gathered
and never lived past thirty-five

and yet as time marched on,
humanity civilized and centralized
and the states rose and fell
and the people rallied around
the crown and the leader when
the chaos came about

and when the chaos went,
they clutched onto
the traditions that carried
them through the darkness

that darkness where the
bands of thugs and thieves
roamed and ravaged

the darkness that made
the word anarchy into
a state of being,
not a philosophy worthy of
investigation or implementation

yet order from chaos occurred

spontaneous or not,
order breeds centralization
because chaos brings out
the worst in humankind

and as time has become distant
from prehistory, the view of
what was has become dim,
tarnished, corrupted

yet the view from now is
nasty and negative,
brutish and beguiling,
short and sedentary
and still likely correct

we are a species based
in an unkind, unforgiving
universe and our nature
mirrors that reality

and yet we have thrived
somehow, anyhow despite
what recent history has stated
about that nature

whatever happens happens
and whatever happened happened

humankind is a species of
story, color and belief

and on it goes,
on it goes until oblivion hits

we are morally ambiguous,
territorially ambitious
and terribly seditious

the coin of two heads
from the anarchistic start
to the absolute bitter end

the penultimate theme
clearly stated
