the battle feels endless
the parent and offspring in a battle of wills over ravioli at supper over stories read at bedtime over brushing teeth and taking baths over the little things because both of them think every instance is Denali instead of a sidewalk anthill but this is a connection forged through more than just biology it may be external to us and beyond our comprehension but after the instances pass, the shared love returns and they are both at ease once again maybe that's the feeling that should be endless and not the idea of the torrential childhood because even biblical torrents aren't eternal there is a rainbow at the end and we should be happy for that
