OnenessA Poem by Kenneth The Poet
on his knees
reaching in, pulling out two deep, three deep long deep in some cases rotating stock from one month to the next a trial by labor, physical labor knees in pain, shoulder aching wrists feel possessed by the carpal-tunnel demon day in, day out slaves to cans and bottles that come in multiples of two, three and five slaves to the American and the world's thirst for sugar syrup he stocks, he pushes, he pulls, he faces, he empties pallets, he empties flats he puts empty flats on empty pallets five days on, two days off four days on, three days off more free time, more time to write more time to work on projects around home but more time to slack off more time to let the dust get deeper on top of the fireplace and the bookshelf more time to involve himself in the dramatic trials of fictional characters in and around a city you and he don't live in is polygamy misogyny? is having that many wives and that much riding on you worth it all? he thinks, one wife always, one child now, one job in the future, one home in the future just a future of oneness he hopes one with the universe, one with something or nothing one is not the number that's most alone but the most profound we seek one with some other, oddity or not, normalcy or not and we maintain it however we can on hands and knees if possible reaching in or out of deep, dark places if needed be there, be square, be one with some that's today's meaning of existence
