To Be A Child

To Be A Child

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

to be a child again
to be an innocent once more
they say it, but do they mean it?

do they even comprehend the
ramifications of that statement?
it's a spoken version of an
unspoken insanity
to relive the negativity
of your earlier traumas
kids grow into adults and
if given a second chance,
would the universal laws
of aging and changing
become suddenly upended?
and what different of
a result could be expected?
Peggy Sue married you
instead of Cindy Lou and
you had Jack Sprat and
Jilly Bean instead of
Jack Off and Jill Bean
different families mean
different triumphs and
different disappointments
again, nothing changes
and life itself remains a
negative proposition
your a child once and never again
be glad it happened at all
