Long Silence

Long Silence

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

silence
long silence
like an argument from authority
based on millenia of hearsay
something was said
but the context was lost
in the game of telephonic history
time marches on in the directions
humankind takes it and memories fade out
people we know become
people we know no more
previous dramas on the reservation become
period dramas on the PBS and the BBC
and the sports complex spotlights shine
across the ninety-four into the backyard
only for a moment and the actions there
and elsewhere pass on into the ether
the children grow up and
the adults grow old and
the generational cycles
power on or peter out
despite the long silence,
attitudes and idiocy rarely
change things despite the fact
that things always change
no wonder the
old television fuzz
is called static
