Steel Lap

Steel Lap

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

pounding ivory keys powered by copper force
the airwaves from the south float up north

human sorrow and joy ringing out steel lap
we have fallen into the haunting sound trap

Americana fogs up the musical bias mirror
as this artist finds nothing better or purer

many acts may be ripping off the Carter clan,
but who gives a f**k when this is your life plan

making the sounds that matter the most
no matter the origins from between the coasts

whether the elephants are revived from rest
or whether the turtles trample you to death

look to the alternatives to find the wellspring
of banjo, harmony and steel lap anything

from Laredo to Duluth and the points between
ears can't unhear it, sights cannot be unseen

the winds have shifted back to the roots
look for them the next time you see your boots
