White Noise

White Noise

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

the speakers emit the
grating noise perpetually

a painstaking plan of
torture that will undermine
the operative's sanity

supposedly

maybe the operative has
the mind of a brick shithouse
minus the depravity
found down the dark hole

but the enemy prison
is no different a dark hole
because s**t can fester
in corners where the light
is devoid and Amnesty International
are dirty words when concatenated
and said on television

of course, allies are enemies
in the new cloak and dagger
way of doing business and
vice versa so the enemy of
my enemy may as well be
my frenemy with benefits
because holes of blackness
can create unholy things

so outside the light of day,
this is the white noise that
emits constantly from the
speakers near the prison ceiling

and so the torture is unsurprising
even if it's painstaking elaborate

and even if the mind of condemned
is a brick shithouse that can
withstand the heat and the pressure,
humans will never get any better
no matter what salvific actions
they undertake

we are the scum of the universe,
and that songs will be the white noise
on the prison speakers for eons to come

Thanks, Poppy.
Silence is, at times, a beautiful thing and to find peace and learn how to keep it is a joy. An interesting and rather dark, yet enjoyable write.

Thank you, Carolann.
There is such a dark fire here... your words that echo across the horrid history of the ages... so many reducing humans to less than animal... to dirt... and it goes on and on... this dark song of pain... wanting so much for it to end.

I understand Craig. Thank you.
i understand now how hearing the same music over and over is successful form of torture. indicates a deep knowledge and understanding of the workings of the government and international affairs. also conveys some cynicism and fatalism. an epic work.

Agreed and not just songs, simple noises as well such as microphone feedback and dial tones. Thank y.. read more
I especially liked the stanza about the frenemies. Still it could be worse than white noise, which while annoying, is not as bad as listening to obnoxious 80s music/ Justin Beiber for 9 hours straight. (Worse part about work, having to listen to that garbage, and having no choice.)
