Honestly

Honestly

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

a grandfather passed on recently,

a father, a son, a cousin,

an uncle, even a friend

he was the kind of man that

lived and loved honestly,

a man who found new life

after the ones he loved

passed on prematurely

he was a knight,

he was a connoisseur

of the aging machinery

he gave to his charities,

he came to the milestones

of his great-grandchildren

on all sides of his family

he was a man to be admired,

he was a light in the dark tundra

and now he’s gone,

laid to rest in the shadow

of a concrete frustum with

speakers on all four sides

and in the shadows of

blades that turn almost

indefinitely while the

red lights flash in

concord when night falls

the descendants keep his

memory alive and he lives

on in their memories because

he was that kind of soul

a soul who lived honestly,

a soul who loved honestly,

a soul who was able to make

meanings and marks on a planet

that seems to be devoid of life and

love during some days, some weeks

and some years

the headstones, the cold war relics,

the towns that once had life seem

to crumble around us but

that means nothing when the lives

lived in and around them are

full of hope, joy and meaning

he will be missed

by the lives he reached
