Grace

Grace

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

the tributary,

abysmal, trenchant and unforgiving
swallows the grace of the next generation,

one not related to the firing line
but the progeny of a folk rock hero
who was more in love with
drink and drugs,

sin begets sin from
one generation to the next,

both falling into the maws of rabid wolves,

one called substance addiction,

the other called watery grave,

head in the oven back when gas was plentiful,
their paths were self-inflicted and the demises
were combinations of the intentional and the
unintentional,

still the tributes abound for the former and
the latter as the massive attack of teardrops
is carried on by the incarnation of Feliciano,
Croce and Meeks,

and the tributary flows onward to the old man,
unstoppable, merciless, the fourth element
intentionally left out of that one band's name,

the grace was just another victim among many,
now a member of the dead by drowning club

their grace periods ended early

Reading this, I couldn't help but think about all the musicians who have died, not just from substances but from plane crashes and other wrong-place-wrong-time scenarios...artists have a sense of mortality about them but it seems doubly so for musicians...awesome piece.

I agree.
One of my most all time favorit songs.... covered by many....

" one called substance addiction,

the other called watery grave"

is just a real good line my friend...

Most real and sad write, yet, so needed, thanks...
