Peacetime Reserve

Peacetime Reserve

A Poem by Gene Denham

To some we are heroes

To others we are wannabes

But we are just people who did a job

And got pretty participation awards

Many of us have felt guilt for not doing more

Some of us have even felt shame

But some of us have been shown the light

By one more mighty than us

We as a collective

Must remember not what we did

But what we were ready to do

And why we took that oath

It was for our children

So that they could choose another path

It was to honor our predecessors

And to follow in their mighty footsteps

We may have only gone to practice

And watched from the sideline

But we were still part of the team

And every member is important
