What if there’d been no World War II And a sense of duty calling to you To go off and fight as such a young man Leaving your wife, just a child too, To care for her three young children alone?
What if you hadn’t gotten TB, Then maybe she Wouldn’t have had the disease She couldn’t survive… What if my mother hadn’t died?
What if you hadn’t felt the need To replace her with me? What if you’d just been the father You should be, Instead of the man Who nearly destroyed me?
And how many people ask that question over and over again, at a guess near every person on the planet at one time or another....I know I have.....So much pain involved in that question, next time keep it to yourself :OP..........

Gloria, there is so much emotion found in these what ifs. A life lived, and a person affected, what if we hadn't become who we are, would we still have what we love?

I am glad I am not him hearing these what ifs. Yes very strong poem in meaning. What if's from the past will never come to be but it is okay to wonder about them and what reality would be like for us today.
