Reflections

A Poem by G. K. Bostic
"

Prompt from Carry On Tuesday

"
I  see it in the mirror,
I see it in my face,
The calendar has carved
The passing of my days.

Reflected in the mirror
Are signs of years gone by,
But there behind reflection
A young girl lives inside.

I see it in the mirror

I see it in my eyes
A wisdom gained by trials
And experience and time.

I see it in the mirror
I see it in the lines
The marks of love and joy

That smiles have left behind.

I see it in the mirror
I see it in my face
The days and years gone by
A precious gift of grace.

These words express thoughts so very familiar to me. Increasingly, my body tells me that I'm not young anymore, but between my ears, In many ways, at least, I'm still seventeen. While some may see time as a cruel villain, I, like you, think of it as not so terrible. It is the way of life, after all. We each have our time to bask in the glory of youth and sunlight, and none can take more or less than we're given.
