ObserverA Poem by G. K. BosticThis is my attempt at our MuSe's challenge at Hair of the Dog.
I have a tale I’d like to tell Of two lost souls…I knew them well. They walked the earth in dead of night As neither one could face the light.
They preyed upon naïve mankind And took life’s blood of all they’d find. They were alike in many ways Yet did not share philosophies.
The endless arguments they had On right and wrong may sound quite mad… Each thought the other’s means to death A grotesque way to steal man’s breath.
“You quaff their blood, disgusting drink, Until your ruby eyes are ink, And then you toss the corpse aside Such blatant waste I can’t abide!”
“Better to leave it to be threshed Than feed upon the filthy flesh! I drink the wine that makes me strong And keeps me looking fine and young.”
They argued thus each time they met, And never spoke of devil’s debt. Phantasmic I observed unseen.. As spirit I know what it means
To leave my human corpse behind And take my soul to peace beyond While they continue causing dread Among the mortals... walk undead.
