Survivor

Survivor

A Poem by G. K. Bostic
"

An Italian Sonnet

"

So long ago and yet she can't forget

The pain of all those days and nights gone by

Imprisoned by her fear she often cried

And terror filled the room with tears and sweat

The shadow and the smell of cigarettes

And joy of youth and childhood was denied.

Forced to walk in silence with the lies

And ever present ugly looming threat.

Today as staunch survivor she can live.

She will not be his victim anymore

By living in a world of pain and hate.

To live in bitterness and not forgive

She would surrender life and lose the war.

No longer owned, now she controls her fate.

Great work, very well presented.

In fact it does reflect on 4.5 years of my life. When asked I tell people that I am a survivor of domestic violence...not a victim and I feel this piece reflects that strength. A survivor has more power than a victim. A survivor will endure.

Lovely piece.

It hurt me to read this. My dear wife suffers so much from a childhood blighted by a vicious father. I see the damage evry day. She will never let it go. Challenging item and a brave, grave subject. Well written and it will help all those who share such a burden!

A very tragic story in the beginning sadly that so many people go through but with a happy ending some never get. You did a great job on this, the fear and triumph comes nicely through your words.

One can only hope that this poem does not reflect tragedy in your past. The poem has real passion and is poignant with both tearing horror and sweet relief. Well written as always.
