No In Between

No In Between

A Poem by Mari' Emeraude
"

Hopeless hope for the addict?

"
When you turned the knife
I shut out my light
I'll be sleepin'
with one eye open tonight
You've fooled me again
I can't let you in
my trust, how you say,
"blew away with the wind".
I kept hopin' though
for a moment or so
you were gonna repay
all the favors you owe
I'm just such a fool
for believing in you
I'll be lockin' the door
in a minute or two
I try shutting you out
but I still have my doubts
that you're gonna survive this
within or without
Ya gotta stay clean
If ya know what I mean
It's one or the other-
there's no in between.

This is also a poem on the evolution of an abandonment complex. Addiction and abandonment share some things in an unpleasant way.
