Eminent Domain

Eminent Domain

A Poem by Mari' Emeraude
"

When the loss for freedom of choice becomes inevitable

"

Eminent Domain

You stood there in the empty room
with sadness on your face
a memory of years gone by
lay silent in its place
A house you’d built
with your own hands;
no longer yours to own
against your will, abandoning
this place you once called home
The old wood floors were splintered now
and flagstones on the hearth
seemed to whisper "take us too
don’t leave us in the dark!”
A tired broom leaned wearily
against the fireplace
and wind that moaned so eerily
blew through without a trace
It rattled soft the dingy glass
within the windowpane
and seemed to call
“this house will fall to eminent domain”

ouch. not a good state to be living in. it's time to shut the door when freedom is abandoned.

loved this part -
A tired broom leaned wearily
against the fireplace
and wind that moaned so eerily
blew through without a trace
It rattled soft the dingy glass
within the windowpane
and seemed to call
“this house will fall to eminent domain”

- very well said, a sort of fall of the house of usher.

Thank you. Sadly, I think this is becoming more commonplace.

This is a fantastic write and a great thrill to read. It moves the reader with strong imagery and tender empathy. Highest marks on this great piece of work. F.

Thank you, Thomas. I always felt sorry for these folks who lost their property this way.
I thought of relationships ending and parents finding how uncaring many grown children can be. Eminent Domain regarding property is a person losing what they have for a supposed greater good. A fair market value is estimated - though really seldom fair at all.

Life has a way of happening and we seldom always survive as we were.

When those who are supposed to protect us betray us.
This poem is filled with very descriptive imagery that keeps the reader captivated.

Thank you for commenting. Yes, I'm sure it seems like a betrayal of sorts
A real feeling of sadness in your lines. I can envisage and feel that situation. Very well written Mari'

Thank you Chris. There's a dark brooding over this poem I think.
