Golden Oldie

Golden Oldie

A Poem by Mari' Emeraude
"

Growing old...it's a dirty job but somebody's got to do it ;p

"
The kids have all grown and moved out on their own
I can now be a senior with ease

But as I get older, unburden my shoulders
the help I once gave
I now need

What has happened to me? I flaunt apathy
I’m becoming my parents I fear

I’ve ditched rock and roll for the daily news show
and prefer jasmine tea to a beer

A concert for me, well, used to be
A summer of fun at Red Rocks

And now my idea of fun for a night
is taking my dog for a walk

I immediately thought about my mother while reading this, I enjoyed the fact that you told a story through a paralleled lens of time. -5 points because you said now your idea of fun is walking your dog... Its fun at any age! haha! I really did like it!

Oh my.
You need some excitement dear.

But in all honesty I can relate!

All of this is "me"
except for the Rock N Roll...I will never ditch that...the late fifties and the sixties...my music...

I grew up on it all....Going to Herman's Hermits April 8.
Have to go see Peter Noone...met him a long way back through a British Invasion class and have seen
him a few times...still sounds great and one of the nicest people I have met.

Mrs. Brown still has a lovely daughter. This poem is so true...we become our parents...and the help we gave we are starting to need ourselves.

'Golden Oldie'
Mari Dmeraude,
This is a poem which feels in flow and easy rhythm like the acceptance of days moving by. The poem reads as the message which is being played out! Sweetness of safer pastimes and an appreciation for the simple things...such as:
"I've ditched rock and roll for the daily news show
and prefer jasmine tea to a beer
A concert for me, well, used to be
A summer of fun at Red Rocks
And now my idea of fun for a night
is taking my dog for a walk."
Ya know what, I can really identify and appreciate many of the ideas within this writing.
Blessings,
Kathy

You've written a fun, witty little ditty here, and I love it! Every line packs a nice punch, and elicits the occasional giggle. Well done!

haha!! I'll drink to that ;)
I dig this poem. I often catch myself doing this my elders do. I often exchange the nights of drinking to just stay in the house. Good work :)

well that is a normal stage in life especially the empty nest syndrome but at least there is no room for regrets because you have lived the life fully and that is what is important.
