Chapter 7A Chapter by London and London, PLLCChapter 7
Taking another deep breath, Liza headed for her father’s study. That would be where he was if he had a client over. She would just wait outside it; she didn’t want to leave without at least telling him she was here and that she loved him. Besides, the way her mother was acting if she didn’t talk to her father her mother was going to twist her words and turn her father against her. She took her time making her way to her father’s study. It was on the other side of the house and she figured if she walked slow enough she might get there just as he finished or meet him on the way. As much as she hated what the house stood for, she loved it. The hallways were wide and tall so as not to make a person feel closed in. The chair rail and moldings were all hand carved in ivy leaf. The carving was so exquisite that the leaves seem to stand out away from the vines as if searching for a way to break out of the wood and come to life. Her father had amazing taste when it came to art. Though the collection was a bit eclectic, covering everything from traditional to realism to abstract to even street art, it conveyed a sense of peace and a love of life. Interspersed between the paintings were sculptures of everything from human to animal and even some exotic plants. The sculptures on served to strengthen the idea that life was precious. Though it was probably not the case, Liza liked to believe that the art showcased her father’s true heart. The side that he kept locked under that tough exterior, that her father was really and man of love and life. Who was she kidding it was probably just another way to mess with the minds of those who came to do business with him. She reached the waiting area outside her father’s office without seeing him or his client so she knew she would have to wait until he had completed his business. The waiting area was more of a lounge than something you would see outside an office. There were three overstuffed leather sofas, a fully stocked bar and enormous flat screen TV, and the two walls that were not covered by the bar were bookcases. On those shelves were a variety of books as eclectic as the art on the way. Liza began browsing the books, not looking for anything in particular. She didn’t really want anything to read, she was just trying to occupy herself while she waited. She had just about finished with the second case when a title caught her eye. “Vampires: The truth behind the mythology”, it was written by a Captain James Riucher. She pulled it off the shelf and began reading the synopsis on the back cover. ‘We have, as adults, always been told that vampires were nothing more than a myth. This is not specifically true. In this book I will show that not only do vampires exist but how they evolved to the mythology we have today. Remember that every myth starts with a little bit of truth!’ She could not believe what she was reading. Maybe she wasn’t really crazy; maybe this book would corroborate what her heart had been telling her this whole time. This could be her link to him. “Now that is an interesting choice of title to pick.” © 2013 London and London, PLLC |
