Time Flies By

Time Flies By

A Poem by KourtneyG

I used to be so small, so innocent

I used to laugh and dance as if no one was around

I used to be proud

I stood tall

Wearing bright colors and long sock

I used to speak my mind, and share my feelings

I used to be this girl I loved

But somehow somewhere u disappeared

Time flies by and when it does things change

Time flies by and voices change

Time flies by and smiles change

Time flies by

I am now a fighter

Who walks through school with head held high

Hiding the fear and shame

I am now a warrior

Who reaches for the stars but seems to fall short

Time flies by

I help those in need but seem to forget about me

I make jokes and laugh but seem to feel sad

Time flies by

Wishing to stop and take a breathe

Holding on tight to the things that I have

Making every move as if its my last

Time Flies By.

Knowing you're in high school, I started reading as if the narrator is looking back on childhood, compared to being a teen/young adult. I love your fresh honesty & how you're specific with lively original-sounding details on a relatable topic. As I read on, I felt your poem also relates to the way we are more lively & spontaneous in young adulthood, or in our 20's, compared to how we feel less carefree as we age & time goes by faster & faster. I love your straightforward conversational style (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This was written very beautifully and evokes that nostalgic feeling I think we feel often and makes our long for our childhood again. I especially loved the line 'Who reaches for the stars but seems to fall short.'

And it captures the feeling perfectly of time going by so fast it feels like you can't even take a breath, you do so much for everyone and life is so short, so when do YOU get to be happy? It's so easy to joke around but still feel a bit down, but you fight on anyways. The poem makes you think about how things change, and keep changing and we don't know what'll happen next, but all we can do is keep making moves like it's our last, just like you said in this wonderfully written poem. Keep writing! (:
