I Thought I Knew Love

I Thought I Knew Love

A Poem by gabiaimee

I thought I knew love
But then I heard you laugh.
I would face every day with a smile in its place
If I could wake up to that sound every morning.

I thought I knew love
But then I cried.
I looked at you and didn't want to cry anymore.
You held me and the world went away.
We were the world.

I thought I knew love
But then we shared everything.
Secrets, stories, snacks, Schnapps...
And it was so easy.
Your happy became my happy
And my struggles became yours.

I thought I knew love
But then we found adventure
In the frost-bitten winds at Pittock
(You warmed my hands in your pockets.)
To the turbines of the Altamont.

I thought I knew love
But then I met you.
