CalFire

CalFire

A Poem by gabiaimee

Those aren’t clouds.

This volcanic blanket already engulfed

the north and dyed the sun in scalding blood.

Hills browned before they

burned, barns were blackened, communities

consumed, scorched earth where homes once stood.

But you gave it no thought

until the ash scalded, heavy in your lungs,

and your eyes reddened with shards of charred earth.

So difficult to read. I was born and raised in California, know these burning places too well, and ache for those suffering in the horror. Powerful, painful words.

The California fires. Every year. Very dangerous. I lived in Monterey for three years. I watched Big Surf fires yearly. Fire is very dangerous and scary.

I've seen the reports. The state looks like it entered hell. So many homes and lives destroyed. So sad.
