I like the set up. It calls for a resolution, but there is none. It just leaves the reader wondering.
Summer is supposed to symbolize frivolous fun, which makes tragedies in the summer all that more poignant. It reminds me of a writer who travelled to CA to start over again. When she found she was miserable even in CA, she said, "Well. Can't get more west" and she shot herself.
Don't know why this piece reminds me of that. Anyhow, I'll stop blabbing now.

to the reader as one goes about the lines...
it paints sadness in each one...
yet never develops into happiness...
