Night Poems

Night Poems

A Poem by Soliloquist
"

A mess of haikus I wrote at night over the period of two weeks while visiting mother's sister in Odawara (that's why it skips nights). The things you see while looking out of a window ehh?

"
First night:
The water lilies
blooming under the moonlight
The stars in my eyes

Second Night:
Under the moonlight
an owl's wings are unfurling.
The lovers' clasped hands

Fourth Night:
The midnight meeting
persistent and unfailing
Odawara's moon

Tenth Night:
The moon is hazy
Their fluttering hearts conjoin
Two hands intertwined

Fourteenth Night:
The Lover's secret
is hidden in the midnight
A fleeting promise

The "lovers" (yes, boy and girl) are my aunts neighbors. Every night I saw them meet on a bridge over a stream where there were TONS of water lilies. I asked my aunt and she later told me that the " lovers' " meeting was a secret they kept from their families because their families were enemies. My aunt said she found out because she also saw them meeting once and asked the girl what was up. Totally sounds like Romeo and Juliet doesn't it? It was the most romantic thing ever that they would do whatever it took to see one another even though their families hated each other.

i don't really like my word choice...

Loved the connection of the fourth night...how their meeting is joined with the moon rising! Very nice

I liked the imagery of this piece. Very simplistic and real. Although in your Second Night haiku, the second line has eight syllables instead of seven. Very pretty poem though.
