Haille

Haille

A Story by G Warren
"

King Haille had no use for those who supported the rights of women, enemies of Ipurdian.

"

Reyna jingled the handcuffs latched onto her, but they would not come off no matter what she did. The dark, dingy dungeons were all she had seen in months; King Haille had no use for those who supported the rights of women, enemies of Ipurdian.

“We are not going to sit by and watch as you kill our sisters!” She screamed. “Face me, coward!” Despite Reyna being the leader of the feminist movement before her arrest, King Haille had not seen her even once. “You’re too scared! I’ve won!” No one responded, of course; no one was there. The dimly lit prison corridors were devoid of human life. Reyna was pained by the fact that she was mere floors away from the king, yet she could not harm him.

As Reyna sat in the cold cell looking into the vast darkness she could hear footsteps slowly getting louder, someone coming closer. She turned her head and saw a guard with a large, bright torch approaching.

"The king is to have an audience with you. I'm to pat you down first.”

“Don’t you dare, don’t you dare touch me! Where would I get a weapon, huh! I don’t have visitors.”

“Just-just sit down and wait. I-I’ll fetch the king.” The nervous looking soldier ran off to get the king.

Reyna sat and stared at the wall as she waited. Soon enough the king was walking towards her cell.

“Hello, Miss. Reyna. Isn’t it nice out?” The king said with a smile.

“Damn you!” Was her only response.

“Of course, I’ve asked that that window be always sealed shut, so I guess you wouldn’t know. I just want you to know that that isn’t going to change. In fact, nothing has changed at all. You haven’t made much of a difference at all in the world, to be frank.”

“I have, I know I have. And when I get out, I’ll get rid of you and all your evil followers for good. I’ll kill you! All of you!”

“That seems a bit unfair to me, Reyna. You call me evil and then you go off saying things like that? You’re wrong, Reyna. You are very wrong.”

“I just wanted to be treated as a human being!” She said. “Is that really so wrong?”

King Haille shrugged. “That’s what I think.” Reyna began screaming and attempted to hit him, but she was trapped behind the bars. The king left without a word.
